Having been born with a cleft palate and receiving speech therapy at a young age, Stephanie immediately knew that she wanted to pursue a degree in Speech-Language Pathology once she entered college. In 2015, she received her Bachelor’s in Speech-Language Pathology from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). Amidst her undergraduate studies, she enrolled in her
school’s Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) practicum in which she worked as a SLPA intern for an elementary school in Cypress School District. There, she worked with preschool and elementary school children with autism, language disorders, articulation/phonological disorders, and fluency disorders. It was there where she also developed a love for play-based therapy and intensive articulation therapy.
Stephanie is currently pursuing her Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology at CSULB and is expected to graduate in spring of 2018. As a graduate clinician, she has worked with children, teenagers, and adults with a variety of speech- language disorders in the on-campus clinic. This includes providing therapy for receptive/expressive language (e.g., vocabulary, morphosyntax, reading comprehension, and narrative language), pragmatics/social skills (e.g., conversational skills, social inferencing, and understanding figurative language), and aphasia. She has also worked part-time for an in-home therapy company, in which she learned to apply therapy in a child’s natural communication environment. Recently, Stephanie completed her medical internship at Torrance Memorial Medical Center. There she worked in the acute hospital and outpatient
rehabilitation setting with individuals with aphasia, dysphagia (i.e., swallowing disorders), cognitive deficits (e.g., attention, memory, and problem solving), and dysarthria (i.e., motor speech disorders).
Stephanie has been a member of the family here at Children’s Speech Care since 2015. She prides herself on being an up-beat and dynamic therapist who loves using multiple resources and techniques in therapy. With children, she enjoys providing a playful atmosphere using various songs, books, toys, and activities. She believes in the mantra that children should look forward to coming to speech therapy! In her free time, Stephanie enjoys hiking, trying new restaurants, going to concerts, and spending time with her family.
